Runes Stones & American Explorers Lost History

Geologist and author Scott Wolter discussed his groundbreaking research into the origins of the Kensington Rune Stone and its connections to other rune stones in America, and the lost history of explorers who came to America before Columbus. The Kensington Rune Stone found in Minnesota contains Runic (letters in the old Norse alphabet) inscriptions with the date 1362. He believes the inscriptions were made by explorers from Gotland, an island off Sweden that had a military monastic order that was possibly the Knights Templar.

His latest research focused on the enigmatic Hooked X symbol, seen in the Kensington stone. This symbol, which was used in the medieval era, also appeared in runic stones found in Maine and other locations, such as Rosslyn Chapel, he noted. Further, the mysterious Newport Tower in Rhode Island, which may have been built by Templars, has a notched keystone through which a line points exactly in the direction of the Kensington Rune Stone.

The Hooked X symbol is one of the runes in GRAL, an early spelling for grail, as in the Holy Grail, Wolter said.

Biography:

Geologist Scott Wolter has been President of American Petrographic Services since 1990, and is responsible for the independent petrographic analysis testing laboratory where the Kensington Rune stone was brought for investigation in 2000. He's been the principal petrographer in more than 5,000 investigations throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, including the evaluation of fire damaged concrete at the Pentagon following the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The indigenous peoples of the U.S. mainland, migrated from Asia, beginning between 40,000 and 12,000 years ago. Some, such as the pre-Columbian Mississippian culture, developed advanced agriculture, grand architecture, and state-level societies. After European explorers and traders made the first contacts, many millions died from epidemics of imported diseases such as smallpox.

Plymouth, New England 1620. The Mayflower Compact made by Pilgrim settlers brought democratic forms of government to the new land.

Columbia was a poetic image of America, largely displaced after 1920 by the Statue of Liberty

The first Spanish explorers landed in "La Florida" in 1513. Spain set up settlements in California and New Mexico that were eventually merged into the U.S. There were also some French settlements along the Mississippi River.

The English settlements up and down the Atlantic coast were by far the most important in shaping the history of the United States. The Virginia Colony began 1607 and the Pilgrims' Plymouth Colony in 1620. Some 100,000 Puritans came to New England, especially the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Beginning in 1614, the Dutch settled in modern New York State; their colony of New Netherland was taken over by England in 1674, but a strong Dutch influence persisted in the Hudson Valley north of New York City for generations. Many new immigrants, especially to the South, were indentured servants—some two-thirds of all Virginia immigrants between 1630 and 1680. By the turn of the 18th century, African slaves were becoming the primary source of bonded labor in many regions.

With the 1729 division of the Carolinas and the 1732 colonization of Georgia, the thirteen British colonies that would become the United States of America were established. All had local governments with elections open to most free men, with a growing devotion to the ancient rights of Englishmen and a sense of self-government stimulating support for republicanism. All legalized the African slave trade. With high birth rates, low death rates, and steady immigration, the colonial population grew rapidly. The Christian revivalist movement of the 1730s and 1740s known as the Great Awakening fueled interest in both religion and religious liberty.
